Fractal: Virtual AR interface

The importance and influence of their visitors’ social and interpersonal relationships together with their collaborative actions have become ever more recognised by galleries and museums as they seek to deliver better visitor experiences and create lasting impressions. This project sought to create an Augmented Reality application that not only encouraged peer-to-peer interaction but required it in order to activate and engage with the digital content, with multiple participants needed to fully expose its complexity

In this piece, a large-scale 1410cm x 300cm image target was created; this took the form of a blue abstract pattern, in which were embedded a number of virtual buttons, spread across the surface (See below). The Digital artefact activates when a participant occluded a section of the image target, which caused a simple grey cube to transform, and as each additional button was activated the complexity of the transformation increased
