Can’t Stop Looking: Interactive AR artwork

British Art Show 8: Leeds 2016

“How long do you spend each day looking at a screen? Have you ever thought how this effects the way you perceive the real world? This artwork seeks to examine the impact smartphones and devices have on the way we see and experience the things around us, the content you view and how this makes us feel and think.”

 

The Artwork’s physical manifestation was formed of 3 plinths, with a physical object housed within a vitrine. Each of the plinths also contained an image target that triggered a separate set of ten digital reactions that were sequential and developed both in complexity and significance. The content of each of these reactions was designed to respond to the specific nature of the objects presented on the plinth: the plinth that contained the 3-D printed gun for example, examined networked warfare, showing drones dropping bombs and their strike targets or satellite imagery of war zones This sought to expose the interrelation between the physical and digital, with the space of places and the space of flows intersecting to augment their significance.
